            LINDSBORG – On Thursday, the Smoky Valley boys tennis team hosted an eight-team Invitational where they finished second overall as a team while placing third/fourth in singles and fifth/sixth in doubles.

            Overall, Buhler took the team title with 48 points while the Vikings finished just four points behind in second. Andover Central and Hutchinson came in third and fourth while Hutchinson Trinity, Ellinwood, Salina Sacred Heart and Sterling rounded out the teams participating.

            In the singles division, the Vikings Max Bieker went 3-1 on the day and place third after having beaten Viking teammate Keaton Lieker, 8-4, leaving Lieker in fourth.

            Smoky Valley had the same issue in the doubles competition as both the duo of Per Nelson and Nate Nyquist ended up playing Viking teammates Gabe and Zeke Baker for fifth place with Nelson/Nyquist prevailing 8-3.

            Up next for the Viking boys tennis team will be Monday at Hillsboro for the league meet.

DOUBLES DIVISION:

Per Nelson/Nate Nyquist > finished 5th, went 3-1 (w 8-5, l 2-8, w 8-1, w 8-3).

Gabe Baker/Zeke Baker > finished 6th, went 2-2 (w 8-0, l 6-8, w 8-0, l 3-8).

SINGLES DIVISION:

Max Bieker > finished 3rd, went 3-1 (w 8-1, w 8-6, l 2-8, w 8-4).

Keaton Lieker > finished 4th, went 2-2 (w 8-2, w 8-0, l 7-8, l 4-8).
