HILLSBORO – On Tuesday at the 17-team James Thomas Invitational track/field meet in Hillsboro, the Smoky Valley girls dominated in getting a team win as well as three individual wins while the Viking boys placed fifth while earning five event championships.

For the Lady Vikings, they rolled up 98 points, a good 31 points ahead of runner-up Inman while Berean Academy and Hesston tied for third and both Larned and Remington tied for fifth.
Breanne Peters was a force to be reckoned with as she won three events, the 200 meters, long jump and triple jump while finishing second in the pole vault. Overall, the Smoky Valley girls finished in the top three 10 times for the day.
It was a team effort for the Viking boys as they scored 79 points to finish third, just two points behind Inman and 13 points behind meet champion Berean Academy. Council Grove and Moundridge rounded out the top five in the team standings.
Three Vikings earned individual wins with Wyatt Johnson winning the 400 meters, Trystan Stambaugh taking first in the discus and Justin Holt out throwing the competition in the shot put. Both the 4×400 and 4×800 meter relay teams also won first-place medals as well.
On Tuesday, the Smoky Valley track/field teams will be on the road at a meet in Minneapolis.
