MARION – After a strong start to the 2023 season, the Inman baseball team continued to hit some rough waters as they traveled to Marion on Friday and lost both ends of a doubleheader, 10-5 and 4-0.

With the pair of losses, the Teutons drop to 11-5 on the season after starting out 10-0. Looking to stop the losing streak, the Teutons will be back on the diamond Tuesday at Sedgwick.
“We got beat by the better team,” noted Teuton head coach Matt Mikulecky. “Congratulations to Coach Schroeder on reaching his 200-win mark.”
In game one neither team scored until Marion pushed one across in the bottom of the fourth, then Inman ran three runs onto the scoreboard in the top of the fifth only to see Marion score five more in the bottom of the fifth and then another four in the sixth. While the Teutons scored twice in the seventh, it was not enough to stop the loss.
Brant Mikulecky was the lone Teuton with more than one hit and both hits went for a double and a triple. Samuel Shober also pounded out a double while both Brody Froese and Caleb Bigler stole a pair of bases.
Mikulecky pitched the first four innings for the Teutons and gave up four hits, two earned ones, walked just one and struck out six. Jesse Ballard threw a pair of innings and gave up four hits and five earned runs before Bigler came on to finish out the work on the mound.
Marion had a pair of doubles and a huge home run in the game.
For the second game, Inman only managed five hits by five different players while being unable to push a run across.
Caleb Bigler used 68 pitches over 3.1 innings on the mound, gave up just three hits and three earned runs while walking just two and striking out seven. Grant Weins finished out the final 2.2 innings, giving up just a pair of hits, one earned run, two walks and struck out five.
Coach Mikulecky concluded his post-doubleheader reflections by saying, “Our pitching wasn’t too shabby. For the most part, our guys kept us in both games and gave us a chance. Marion is a good hitting team, and we were pretty effective against them for 12 of 14 innings tonight. We have got to get the bats going somehow or someway if we want to make any noise down the final stretch. I have got to do a better job with our hitters.”
