LITTLE RIVER – The unbeaten season is no more as the Little River baseball team suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday when they lost one of two games with Remington, losing game one 8-6 before bouncing back and dominating game two for a 14-2 win.

With the split, the Redskins are now 15-1 on the season as they prep for a trip to Moundridge on Friday.

In game one, Remington surprised the Redskins with five runs scored in the first inning and then added two in the third, to take a 7-3 lead into the fourth inning. Remington added another run to their score in the fifth and while Little River pushed three runs across in the sixth, it was not enough, and Remington handed the Redskins their first loss of the season.

Despite the loss, Braden Young, Dalton Mantz, and Kayston Cox all had a pair of hits with Young and Cox pounding out doubles. The Redskins stole 11 bases in the game with Mantz accounting for four of those.

Spencer Strecker went six innings on the mound for Little River and struck out seven while Braden Young threw one inning in relief.

Little River’s offense bounced back in the nightcap as they pounded out 15 hits that included three doubles and a triple while stealing 12 bases in getting a 14-2 win.

Remington again began the game with scoring two runs in the top of the first, but after that the Redskins shut them down. Little River scored just once in the first but then poured five runs across the plate in both the second and third innings and then added three more in the fourth to get the 12-run, 14-2 victory.

CJ Herzog went 3-for-3 and Dalton Mantz went 3-for-4 to lead the Redskin bats. Logan Renken, Grant Stephens, and Kayston Cox all chipped in with a pair of hits. Mantz, Renken, and Spencer Strecker all hit doubles and Cox hammered out a triple. Braden Young and Mantz each had three steals while Carter Stansbury had a pair. Mantz finished the game scoring four times and getting credit for three runs batted in.

Mantz also worked all five innings on the mound, giving up just a pair of hits, just one earned run, walked only three and struck out six.
