VICTORIA – On Thursday the Canton/Galva track/field teams traveled out west to Victoria as one of nine teams competing in the Tony “Red” Pfeifer Track/Field Invitational where the Eagle boys finished third and the Lady Eagles placed eighth.

The Invitational had a unique scoring system as it was one of the few events that award team points to the top eight finishers and not just the top six.
For the Eagle boys, they rolled up 72 points to finish third behind invitational champion Plainville and runner-up Trego Community. Lacrosse and Kinsley rounded out the top five of the nine team field.
Wyatt Collins, Lane McMannis and Jett Vincent both took first-place medals with Collins winning the shot put, McMannis running first in the 110 hurdles and Vincent taking first in the high jump. Vincent also placed second in both the 100 and 200 meters while Lane McMannis ran second in the 400 meters.
“Vincent and McMannis were each in four events,” noted track/field head coach Tina McMannis. “Both earned points in all four of their events as well.”
While Mimi Craig had the only first-place finish for the Lady Eagles as she won the shot put as they finished eighth out of nine teams. Thomas More Prep/Marian won the ladies division with Ellis, Plainville, and Lacrosse rounding out the top four.
Coach McMannis concluded her post-meet reflections by adding, “Many of our athletes took advantage of the nice weather and good western Kansas competition, getting personal records in their events, including Emma Herrera, Wyatt Collins and Mimi Craig in the shot put, Jayden Barnett and Lane McMannis in the 400 meters; and Jordyn Elliot in the 110-meter hurdles. We are looking forward to competing in the Wheat State League meet.”
The Canton/Galva track/field teams will be in Goessel on Thursday, May 11 for the Wheat State League Meet.
