REMINGTON – In a pair of weather induced makeup games, the Canton/Galva baseball team went on the road Saturday to Remington and lost two close contests, dropping game one 9-5 before losing game two by just one-run, 10-9.

The Eagles now stand at 8-10 for the season as they close out the regular season schedule on Tuesday by hosting Little River.

Remington went up 4-1 in the first inning of game one and then held the Eagles to zero runs for four innings while putting up five more for themselves. When Canon/Galva was able to add a run in the sixth and three in the seventh, they fell short in the 9-5 loss.

Gavin Robertson and Dylan Cherry each had a pair of the Eagles six hits with Cherry and Emmitt Neufeldt both pounding out doubles.

Robertson worked 3.1 innings, throwing 59 pitches in giving up just two hits, two earned runs and walking three plus striking out three. Garrett Maltbie worked the final 2.2 innings and took the loss as he threw 58 pitches and gave up just three hits, two earned runs while walking two and striking out four.

In the second game, Eagles were up 4-2 after the first inning and 5-4 after two and still held a 9-6 advantage going into the bottom of the sixth when Remington poured across four runs and then held the Eagles scoreless in the top of the seventh to hand the Eagle the hard fought, heartbreaking one run loss.

Garrett Maltbie went 3-for-5 with a double and Gavin Robertson was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles to lead the Eagles offense. Ryder Norstrom also hit a double.

Ross Burrill and Noah Collins split time on the mound for Canton/Galva, needing 133 pitches to give up seven hits, just four earned runs while walking four and striking out four.

The Eagle defense committed eight errors in the game after committing 11 in game one.
