VIKINGS CLOSE SEASON WITH PAIR OF LOSSES TO HESSTON

            HESSTON – In and around weather this past week, the Smoky Valley baseball team managed to fit in their final doubleheader of the season at Hesston where the lost both games, 1-4 and 4-14.

            With the two losses the Vikings finish the 2023 regular season 4-16.

            In game one it was a struggle for both teams to get hits and runs as Hesston did manage to score three in the third and one in the fourth while Smoky Valley finally got a run in the fifth.

            The Vikings managed just one hit in the game and came from Ty Heitschmidt while Ethan Able scored their only run.

            Kade Blanchat and Nolan Moore shared duties on the mound for the Vikings as they combined to throw 102 pitches, give up just three hits, one earned run, walked four and struck out seven.

            Hesston came out of strong in game two, scoring five in the first and seven in the second and despite Smoky Valley pushing across four in the second they still lost by ten, 14-4.

            Nolan Dauer and Ty Heitschmidt each had a pair of hits with Heitschmidt getting a double.

            Nolan Moore started on the mound for the Vikings and lasted 1.1 innings before giving way to Heitschmidt who finished out the final 2.2 innings.
