The Canton/Galva softball team brought the bats out on Tuesday as they hammered Sterling for a 13-3 win in their first game of Class 2-1A state regionals.
With the win, the Lady Eagles up their season mark to 14-6 as they prep to play Hillsboro in the regional semi-finals on Wednesday. Hillsboro, now 6-13, upset second seed Whitewater/Remington 10-8 on Tuesday. The winner will then battle the winner of the other semi-final between county rivals Inman and Moundridge.
Scoring four runs in the and one in the second, the Lady Eagles opened up an early 5-0 advantage before Sterling put two runs on the board in the fourth. Canton/Galva replied with two more runs of their own in the fourth and then put four more in the scorebook in the fifth and two in the sixth to gain the final 10-run victory.
Brooke Stephan had to best time at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in while Brecken Pearson, Julia Allen, and Jayden Orth all had a pair of hits as well. Allen, Orth, Raegan Hawkinson and Emerson Hoppes also powered out doubles and Pearson hammered out a triple.
Jordan Friesen did the work on the mound for the Lady Eagles, throwing 64 pitches while giving up just three hits, three earned runs, walking nobody and striking out six.
