On Wednesday, the Moundridge softball team, a fourth seed in their Class 2-1A regional, used a huge fourth inning to defeat county rival Inman, the eighth-seed, 15-5 in the regional semi-final matchup, ending Inman’s season while putting Moundridge into the regional championship game.
With the loss the Lady Teutons closed out their 2023 season with a record of 6-15.
Inman held an early 3-1 lead after the first two innings when Moundridge pushed three runs across the plate in the third to take a one-run, 4-3 advantage and then followed that up with an explosion of seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to give the Lady Wildcats a commanding 11-3 lead. After Inman scored twice in the top of the sixth, the Lady Wildcats then pushed four more runs across in the bottom of the sixth to get the run ruled, 15-5 victory.
While the Lady Teuton defense was their downfall, recording 12 errors, they did manage to get eight hits on offense including two hits from both Alyssa Johnson and Joee Hurley. Both Hurley and Johnson plus Emma Brown hit doubles.
Emma Brown did all the work on the mound for Inman, giving up just six hits and only two earned runs while walking eight and striking out eight.
For Moundridge, they only needed six hits to get the win, with no Lady Wildcat getting more than one though Addy Falco did pound out a double. The Lady Wildcats had their way on the base paths, stealing a total of 18 bases with three each coming from Maggie Adolf, Emily Durst, Addy Falco, and Sam Strausz.
Emily Durst pitched a complete game for the Lady Wildcats, giving up eight hits, three earned runs, just one walk and struck out five.
