IOLA – Traveling all the way to Iola for their Class 1A regionals, the Canton/Galva track/field teams performed so well that the Eagle boys won the meet while the girls finished fifteenth with state meet qualification in 11 events.
For the Eagle boys, they finished the meet with 83 points which was good for the team championship while also qualifying in 10 events at next weeks state meet in Wichita. Olpe, Lebo, Madison, and Goessel rounded out the top five teams of 19 competing.
Individually the Eagles were led by Wyatt Collins, Lane McMannis and Jett Vincent who both qualified for state in three events each.
Wyatt Collins won both the discus (136’8”) and the shot put (46’5.5”).
McMannis won the 300-meter hurdles (41.40) while also qualifying for state in both the 110-meter hurdles (16.63) and 200 meters (23.87).
Jett Vincent did not win any events but qualified for the state meet with second-place finishes in the 100 meters (11.45), 200 meters (23.11) and the high jump (6’4”). Isaiah Patton qualified for state in the high jump (5’10”) as did the 4×100 meter relay team (43.20) who also won the event.
For the Lady Eagles, it was all Mimi Craig as she won the shot put (36’2”) to give the team their only points as they finished fifteenth.
